The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of

Associate Professor in » Personalized Oncology «

to begin as soon as possible. The position is a tenured W3 position.

Scientific Environment
The professorship will be assigned to the TUM School of Medicine and the Department of Internal Medicine III of the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar. The TUM School of Medicine is one of Germany’s top medical schools in research and teaching with a strong focus on interdisciplinary and translational research in oncology.
Our constant aim to improve the treatment of cancer and to offer modern cancer therapy is facilitated by multiple institutionalized partnerships like the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK), Bavarian Cancer Center (BZKF), and the Comprehensive Cancer Center Munich (CCCM) as well as several comprehensive joint research projects (e.g. CRC 1335, CRC 1321, CRC 1371).

Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research, teaching, and patient care as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of Personalized Oncology with a focus on translational lymphoma biology and/or thoracic oncology. Commitment to drive and lead the development of a genomics-guided study center in the context of the existing molecular tumor board at Klinikum rechts der Isar and CCCM is expected. Expertise in basic research using relevant in vivo models for mechanistic studies and/or experience in the field of pre-clinical research to promote identification of therapeutic vulnerabilities using multi-omics methods is an asset. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs.

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with outstanding scientific and clinical experience and qualifications, as demonstrated by achievements in research and teaching at the highest international level. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected.
Proven ability to attract competitive and high-ranking third-party funding (e.g. Krebshilfe, DFG, BMBF, EU etc.) and personal funding (e.g. ERC Grant, scientific foundations) and to collaborate in integrated research networks is expected. A medical qualification in Internal Medicine with a specialization in Hematology and Oncology is required.
