Scope of duties
This full-time (100%) postdoc level position is available from 1.1.2023 with funding for four to five years.
The DIDTM with the associated DZIF International Clinical Trials Unit specializes in large human cohort research, clinical trials and clinical/population based intervention studies in the field of natural infection, vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics. The DIDTM is an internationally renowned research institution in the field of TB-, HIV- and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) -research, which is co-leading and/or involved in multiple international research consortia such as TB Sequel, Unite4TB, PanACEA, EraseTB. The institution harbours broad capacity and modern infrastructure for basic science, biostatistics, clinical trials and epidemiological research.
The scientific focus of the “Infection Epidemiology and Clinical TB Studies”- group is on the distribution and determinants of (respiratory) infections as well as the interaction between respiratory infections (e.g., tuberculosis, Covid-19) and long-term health outcomes in low-resource settings, with a specific focus on respiratory health. Our collaborative research activities with partners in Germany, sub-Saharan Africa and Eastern Europe are deploying a comprehensive research approach on lung health, covering a broad spectrum of biological, clinical, epidemiological and socio-economic studies, which are embedded within several cohort studies, and clinical intervention trials targeting respiratory health, and will become the research focus of potential applicants.
Our requirements
- License to practice as a medical doctor preferred
- Clinical experience, ideally in internal medicine (respiratory medicine or infectious diseases)
- Completed PhD (or Dr. med.) in infectious diseases, global health, public health, tropical medicine or a related discipline
- Experience in the conduct of epidemiological or clinical studies and/or clinical trials
- Profound scientific writing skills and scientific rigor
- Proven ability to work in a team with professionals and researchers in a multicultural context
- Interest in exchange, capacity building and close collaboration with partner institutions and scientists, which involves traveling to study sites, mostly in Africa
- Ambitious and highly motivated for pursuing a career in science
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and capacity to build working relationships with colleagues from different cultural background
- Full proficiency in written and spoken English, German is an asset
- Mandatory vaccination in healthcare: Since 16.03.2022, all employees in hospitals will be subject to mandatory vaccination against SARS-CoV-2
