Clinician Scientist Position (JLU-CAREER)
The Justus-Liebig-University Giessen Clinician Scientist Program in Biomedical Research (JLU-CAREER), funded by the German Research Council (DFG), offers clinician-scientist positions starting early summer 2021. The program is open for all physicians undergoing clinical speciality training (Facharztausbildung) and it aims to facilitate and improve the scientific education and qualification of candidates in the key research areas "imbalanced inflammation & infection", "fibrotic repair and remodeling" and "cancer evolution & progression".
The candidates are expected to work on a dedicated scientific project and to undergo additional training as “Clinician Scientist” in the section“ Clinical Sciences” of the Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences (GGL). JLU-CAREER aims to identify molecular pathomechanisms, which underlie a large number of most compromising and devastating diseases, among them leading causes of worldwide mortality and morbidity, and to generate new conceptual frameworks for the mechanistic understanding of and novel therapeutic strategies against these diseases.
The program is open for national and international applicants that fulfil the following criteria:
- Finished studies in human medicine incl. doctoral degree (at least thesis submitted)
- Is allowed to work as a physician in Germany (“Approbation”)
- Is in the medical specialty training (at least 12 months completed)
- Proven interest in medical research
- For international applicants: sufficient German language proficiency
During the participation in JLU-CAREER and for 3 years, candidates will be granted 50% of their time to work on their scientific project. The scientific research part will be accompanied by an expedited clinical training, a structured seminar program embedded in the GGL ( https://www.uni-giessen.de/fbz/zentren/ggl ) and a mentoring program.
