in Neuro-ophthalmology and Visual Rehabilitation 

At the Jules Gonin Eye Hospital (JGEH)

The Jules-Gonin Eye Hospital (JGEH) is part of the ‘Fondation Asile des Aveugles’, a private institution which provides diagnosis, treatment and care for eye diseases and people with visual impairment. The JGEH includes specialized medico-social units for visually impaired adults and children while ensuring academic research and training activities. By its missions, the hospital, including inpatient wards and outpatient clinics, is affiliated with the Lausanne University Hospital and the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne.

Principal missions

  • Developing interactions between the different clinical, neuro-ophthalmology, visual rehabilitation and low-vision, as well as educational entities of the Foundation Asile des aveugles, both internally and externally, particularly with the Department of Neurology at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV).
  • Promoting patient care services
  • Developing translational research in the fields of neuro-ophthalmology and visual rehabilitation, focusing on human neuroscience related to visual health/disease
  • Developing the visibility of our multidisciplinary center specializing in neuro-ophthalmology and visual rehabilitation, for all age groups.

Profile

  • Federal medical degree (or MEBEKO equivalent), MD or MD-PhD
  • FMH board certification in ophthalmology or neurology or equivalent qualification with sub-specialisation in neuro-ophthalmology
  • Several years of clinical experience in neuro-ophthalmology with fellowship
  • Experience in visual rehabilitation
  • Medical and surgical expertise in strabismus is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated abilities to set up clinical research programs likely to receive external funding, with expertise in the field of translational research in neuro-ophthalmology and/or visual rehabilitation.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines and work in interdisciplinary environments
  • Recognized managerial skills in leadership, including clinical governance, human resources, and finance.
  • At least 5 years of academic experience with faculty rank and proven practice in pre and postgraduate teaching and research
  • Proficiency in French (level at least B2, C1 ideally) or ability to acquire it quickly - and English. Fluency in German and / or Italian is an asset.
  • A track record demonstrating exemplary professional conduct: the successful candidate must provide full assurance of integrity and compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements of the position.
